Sadly, prisoner 777 won't be home for Christmas this year...so Tex is substituting in this family-picturesque scene. Ain't he sweet? >u>
Kinda late gift for my pal, Zerna. When I had asked her for some ideas of what she wanted drawn, she suggested a holiday-themed pic with her OC, Tex, and my two Vortian gals. Of course, I was only too happy to make it.
Instead of a generic Earth-Christmas-themed scene, I decided to put some creativity behind this piece, and make up my own holiday -- something that would seem...Vortiany XD
I decided that its traditional for relatives to get together and build scrap metal sculptures-- often depicting a mecha arm with an open palm (to hold the gifts, akin to placing presents around a tree); however, the more ambitious Vortian families sometimes build the entire robot. And yes, kids are included in the project! :] Seriously, what's more fun for Vortian kiddies than burning shit with 20,000 degree plasma welders?
So, what's the symbolism behind the robotic arm you ask? Well, for one, machines are a huge factor in Vortian culture --automatons have been built since their version of the Industrial Revolution -- back when their robots were little more than rickety, steam-powered rust heaps held together by nuts and bolts. And when Vortians found out later that they could use mecha in lieu of soldiers to fight other nations, they did away with ground infantries -- which saved many lives during wartime (this fact also earned Vortians a galaxy-wide reputation of being cowards for hiding behind their giant un-manned robots)
But what really popularized the holiday was a not-so-accurate historical event, derived from the year when the various Vortian tribes drew a treaty after decades of fighting over resources; it is said the first peaceful instigation was made when one of the warring factions sent a mecha bearing gifts to a city of an opposing side. (However, the true facts state otherwise: the robot had actually pulled a trojan-horse just to get past the barricades, and ultimately decimated that Vortian city.)
Of course, the historical facts have been twisted mainly to make the story more kid-friendly so manufacturing and retail companies can commercialize the holiday...LAWL
ANYWAY, I know you lurve it Zerna. Continue to lurve it <3333
